When you’ve seen a beautifully polished ad film or an engaging corporate video, it can be hard to remember the orchestration behind any given frame. But behind the sorcery of every great visual story, there’s an army of creatives, technicians and planners. As a film production house in Delhi, we’ve been fortunate enough to take blank canvases and created stories that move people — and the question we go asked the most is, “What happens behind-the-scenes?”
Here’s a candid look at what a typical day on set looks like.
6:00 AM — The First Call Time
The crew arrives early, often before sunrise, with coffee in hand and headsets on. Equipment vans are parked, and the location begins to buzz with quiet urgency. The line producer checks off logistics: location access, permissions, and call sheets. The first task? Setting up base camp — where equipment, costumes, and catering will be stationed.
Gaffers start unloading lights, grips prepare rigs, and the camera department begins assembling the gear. In parallel, makeup and costume teams get the talent ready.
8:00 AM — Blocking & Lighting
There is blocking, before shooting. Before the cameras roll the director will walk the actors through the scene and the AD will time the actor’s movements. The DOP will work with the gaffer to create the lighting plan that will help in establishing the atmosphere.
Lighting is often the most time-consuming part of production. It can take an hour to light a ten-second frame. Successful lighting can differentiate amateur from cinematic, and every professional film production house in Delhi is intensely aware of this.
10:00 AM — First Shot of the Day
The most exciting words: “Roll camera… and action!” What follows is a series of takes, resets, tweaks, and sometimes, do-overs. The director focuses on performance, while the DOP ensures framing, focus, and movement are just right.
Behind them, the script supervisor notes continuity and the sound team listens for noise or mic issues. Even a distant honk can mean another take.
1:00 PM — Lunch & Recharge
Lunch is not just about food — it’s a crucial reset. Crew members bond, discuss what’s working, and prep for the next half. On high-pressure sets, this break becomes a breather for creative minds.
2:00 PM — Second Half: The Real Hustle
As the light begins to shift, the crew picks up pace. Golden hour is precious in film. This part of the day often sees more intense scenes or B-rolls being captured. Directors may take risks, actors get into deeper emotions, and the production team multitasks like clockwork to keep everything on track.
In Delhi’s unpredictable weather or noisy streets, adaptability is key. Being a film production house in Delhi has taught us how to improvise fast — be it switching to indoor setups or using backup generators during sudden power cuts.
6:00 PM — Pack Up & Backup
After we’ve shot the last shot it’s time to wrap. Everything is packed away and all the memory cards are logged and backed up immediately — no lost footage! Everyone will take a walk of the location to make sure there is nothing left behind.
While the producer is approving the repairs of a traveling case that needs replacing after some travel injuries, the director and DOP are watching a few selects back on the monitor, while the editor is starting to sync up rushes for the assembly cut tomorrow.
